Stuart A. Shorenstein is President of WolfBlock Public Strategies, LLC and chair of WolfBlock's Communications Practice Group. He has practiced communications law for more than 30 years in New York and Washington, D.C. Mr. Shorenstein is resourceful, creative and a first-rate negotiator who possesses excellent business judgment that allows him to seize upon business opportunities that are beneficial to his clients. Over the years, he has represented in New York and Washington, DC, group owners of broadcast stations and cable systems, media lending groups at major financial institutions and venture capital financers in connection with regulatory, transactional and operational issues in the media industry.
Mr. Shorenstein has lectured at numerous national conventions and is the author of several articles on the communications industry. His published work includes the chapter on the future of public television in the book American Media (Wilson Quarterly), a law review article on awarding gender preferences in broadcast licensing proceedings published in the Federal Communications Bar Journal, an article on redefining the public interest standard in media ownership in the St. John's Journal of Legal Commentary, and numerous articles in the New York Law Journal, Broadcasting and Cable, The Daily Deal and other journals.
Mr. Shorenstein received his B.A. from Duke University in 1968 and his J.D. from New York University School of Law in 1971, where he was named a University Scholar.
Mr. Shorenstein is a member of the bars of the State of New York and the District of Columbia.
Mr. Shorenstein was the first member from outside of Washington, D.C., to serve on the Executive Committee of the Federal Communications Bar Association (FCBA). In 1995, he received that association's highest honor, the Distinguished Service Award. He has served as an officer of the FCBA and has co-chaired its Law Journal, Membership and Mass Media Committees and is current chair of its Transactional Practice Committee. For 10 years, he chaired the FCBA's New York Chapter.
Mr. Shorenstein is General Counsel and a member of the Board of Directors of the International Radio and Television Society. He also has served as a member of the Subcommittee on Communications Law of the Association of the Bar of the City of New York and as a Director of the Intercollegiate Broadcasting System. Mr. Shorenstein was an Adjunct Professor of Communications Law at Hofstra University Law School.
Mr. Shorenstein served as a member of the Clinton/Gore transition team focusing on the operations of the Federal Communications Commission.
Mr. Shorenstein helped lead the transition team for then Attorney General Elect Elliot Spitzer and is a member of his Finance Committee. He has been active in the judicial selection process in New York and served as Administrator of the 1995 Independent Judicial Screening Panel to recommend most highly qualified candidates for judgeship in New York City. Mr. Shorenstein also has acted as an Arbitrator in litigated disputes involving the telecommunications industry.
